Phantom Pantone colorbrooke lhernould - 04:36am Sep 24, 2004 PSTWorking in Illustrator CS on XP, I have had trouble getting rid of a pantone color (on two separate occasions in two separate files). That is to say, the color existed first as pantone in the file but then was changed to four-color process, but the pantone color remains as a separation plate in the list of separations and its swatch remains as a "used" swatch in the swatches palettes. I have checked each element of the files, and the color is nowhere to be found. When I try to print the pantone plate to see what is on it, nothing prints (either using Xpress or creating a pdf and printing separations). Still, the color persists and I am afraid that will cause problems at the printer's. I have two questions:
-- is there a way to search for a given color in a file?
-- what might be happening here?
Thanks so much for your help.

Usually there's something like a stray text point or something else that's hidden. You may have made a guide out of a path that had the spot color assigned to it, you name it. The only way to find out absolutely for sure, is to select all the desired content, and copying and pasting it into a new file.
Another approach would be to unlock everything in the file, draw a small rectangle, assign the spot color to it as a fill, then Select>Same>fill color and see, then repeat with stroke...
Bert
Thanks a lot. I will try that. By the way, I don't know why there is a duplicate post of this subject -- I did post it only one time.
Or look at your duplicate post which I just responded to. Ha, just had to copy Bert. Looks like we have the same approaches.
Well, that makes us virtually the same person.
That explains the philip in both names...
Start with Object>Path>Clean up
You can also try creating an object with that color of fill or stroke, then trying to select same>fill or stroke.
Or you can make sure nothing is locked and hidden. Then select one object at a time, doing select same fill (or stroke). and hidinging all that color of object. Then go on to the next object.
or look at your duplicate post which I just responded to.

Bert and Philip are the same person?
Scary.
You have no idea...

Have you ever seen a picture of philip & bert together? Of course not, how could you, if they are one person. Well, I suppose you could use photoshop, but thats another forum...
Stephen, can you repeat? Quick, before the Phantom Host strikes back.
Have you ever seen a picture of philip & bert together? Well, maybe, but I do not know how to post images.
